About 3 Education and Rob Harris

Rob Harris

As FASET chairman from 2015-2017, Rob was FASET’s representative at the Access Industry Forum’s (AIF) Work at Height Management Programme and was involved in the NSCC training committee for a number of years. He was a PASMA and Ladder instructor. He was also a key contributor to the publication of BS 8411 and BS 8454 with the BSI and ACR Blue book. Rob is currently working on the CEN committee CEN/TC 53/WG 7 to revise EN 1263:1 and EN 1263:2 . 3 Education were awarded FASET’s 2017 Contributor award. Amazingly, this was awarded again in 2021 in recognition of the work 3 Education did to promote FASET to the Supreme Committee for the 2022 Qatar world cup.

His knowledge on the work at height subjects he teaches on are phenomenal and he is regularly called on for support and expertise by customers around the globe.

Consultancy

Rob is a sought after consultant, specialising in temporary works at height. He can advise on the best solution that works in the interests of the worker, employer and client. Wherever possible, the guidance provided will include all parties involved in the supply chain. All guidance is impartial. Rob has no commercial ties with any manufacturer or installer.

Course author

Rob has authored numerous teaching programmes – typically about work at height. The audience type will vary from workplace operatives (both English and non-English speaking) through to senior executives and professionals. All courses follow the requirements of BS 8454-Code of practice for delivery of training and education for work at height
and rescue. Rob was one of the original committee members that wrote this standard.

Training

Over 15,000 candidates across the world have attended courses run by Rob. All have a common thread of ‘working at height.’ But, whatever the course title, candidates learn through activity. The learning process is not about slick powerpoint presentations – it is engaging the candidate in the learning experience, which is a core belief of the company. This can be evidenced in the number of non-English speaking candidate courses, where the instructor’s skill and imagination is stretched to the maximum, but the knowledge is imparted successfully.

Assessing

Rob helped write the national occupational standards for safety netting with the CITB and soon after became one of the UK’s first NVQ assessors for safety net rigging. Over 800 candidates have achieved NVQs through Rob’s programmes. He is recognised as a leading assessor with a reputation for dealing at all levels of the chain in a personable, fair and helpful way. His experience of assessing over the years means that Rob’s candidates achieve in a timely fashion with minimal disruption to productivity.
As well as running courses and assessing, Rob is a sought after speaker at presentations and events, where his knowledge is shared in an informative yet fun way. Prior to establishing 3 Education, Rob was Managing Director of ShireSafety.com and was instrumental in the development of Netclaw, which was a revolutionary remote attachment rigging device for safety nets upon at the time. Rob has always been at the sharp edge of work at height. Safely!

Expert Witness

Rob has been involved in a number of cases as an expert witness, working for the prosecution and for those in commercial dispute.

What our clients think about us

Every single candidate that undergoes training and assessing through 3 Education completes a feedback form. We need this for two reasons - so we can monitor our performance and look to improve what we do. It also allows us to state our compliance with BS 8454. We score each feedback sheet and forward a summary to each employer so they can act where necessary.

With your input and assistance, I’m quite confident we shall reap the benefits of having a more knowledgeable and experienced work-force and the after course back up and communication is very much appreciated, adding confidence in potentially very demanding situations. Best wishes for the future and looking forward to my next course with you.

"Having worked closely with Rob Harris on Industry Committees, Working Groups and engaged 3 education for my company's 'Working at Height' training needs over recent years, I have always found Rob's training insightful, thought-provoking and engaging. His courses inspire awareness with an appetite for further learning on a range of working at height, FASET, Edge Protection and associated topics. The format and delivery is always well thought out, and the material accessible to all who attended. Rob often relates to his own experiences in class to really bring the courses to life, thus demonstrating to the delegates his technical knowledge in the topic. Rob's training provides an ideal balance of learning and the opportunity to contribute to the discussions. In summary, Rob's courses are a must for those managing, supervising and working at height."
